In Sierra Leone we support a nurse, Rebecca and a midwife, Estella, who are based at New Hope Primary School and provide health care for the children, their families, and the local community at Thombo Bana, as well as the community associated with our New Hope Academy Secondary School.
Rebecca is pictured below learning how to conduct a basic eye test from Peter Booth during the Vision Mission UK team’s visit.
An important aspect of our health care team’s work is outreach to village communities, holding clinics and providing health talks and advice. Their visits to villages are combined with visits by evangelists from our New Hope Church, who share the good news of the Gospel with villagers, and other support, such as a meal for all the local community. Estella is pictured below right giving a health talk at Mabendu village.

Over the course of four months in 2026, the clinical outreach team of International Aid Trust Sierra Leone, carried out community health and evangelism outreach, focusing on four villages: Mabendu, Gbaneh Lol, Lokomasama and Rogbaray. The emphasis was on supporting pregnant women, lactating mothers, young ladies, and children in these villages, where people experience very high levels of poverty.
The team provided clinical care; including antenatal and postnatal checks, health sensitization teaching sessions; including safe pregnancy care and malaria prevention, evangelism and discipleship; each session included prayer, scripture, and a clear presentation of the Gospel, and also prayer and counselling for individuals. A total of 345 women and children were supported.
Estella writes, “The outreach combined compassionate medical care with the sharing of the Gospel, rooted in our conviction that healing of body and soul go hand in hand. Our aim was to save lives, educate families, and point every person we met to the love of Jesus Christ.
“We commit to continued follow-up with the new mothers, the families who made commitments to healthier practices, and the new believers who gave their lives to Christ. Our prayer is that every woman and child in these communities would know they are seen, loved, and cared for by God.”
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3
Prayer from the team:
Lord Jesus, thank You for using our team as instruments of healing and hope. Strengthen our midwife and staff, soften hearts that still resist care, and let every mother and child we meet experience Your love. May no woman die giving life, and may every child grow in health and in knowledge of You. Amen.
