The republic of the Philippines is a beautiful archipelago country in the Western Pacific Ocean. It is a country of great variety and contrasts.
Our work in the Philippines is co-ordinated by Trustee Lennie Fisher. Lennie says, “We support four missions in different areas of the Philippines, they all work with vulnerable young people. This is a ministry to children who have next to nothing, it helps me to realise that the Lord provides.”

One of the areas of the Children’s Ministry in the Philippines is Bais City in the province of Negros Oriental. Week by week volunteer teachers from the local churches spend time with the children, sharing the gospel, helping the children to grow in faith, having fun, providing pastoral care and also a snack meal. The majority of the children who attend the after school clubs run by the churches are from incredibly poor backgrounds. Some are street children, surviving by collecting bottles etc. for recycling.
At special celebrations such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, the children receive gifts including school supplies. Receiving these pens, pencils, notebooks etc. is a huge help to enabling them to stay in education. The teachers say they are “Always thanking God for His good provision”.

The ‘Mountains Ministry’ runs outreach sessions in three different locations each month, throughout the year. The locations are all very remote and can only be accessed by motorcycle or by foot. The children learn about God’s love for them through Bible stories, memory verses, praise and worship. There is a feeding programme to help with nutrition and the team support the children’s education, providing stationery supplies and shirts to help the children to keep attending.
Merlie (right, centre) is the founder of the Mountains Ministry and co-ordinates the Summer Bible School, approximately 150 children attend each year, they are from families with a very basic lifestyle, who rely on subsistence farming. At the Summer School the children enjoy lots of fun, games, singing and dancing, food and learning about Jesus. Revival Movement in Northern Ireland supply the teaching materials, local Christian parents and young adults volunteer their time to help to help.
Merlie says, “We pray for God’s guidance in our endeavour to spread the good news of Jesus to the children and their families. It’s always so exciting to see them all!”
We give thanks to God for all the dedicated volunteer teachers involved in the Children’s Ministry in several different locations across the Philippines. We thank God that the children enjoy their time learning about God’s love for them in a safe and caring environment. We pray that they will all grow to love and trust Jesus for themselves.
